What is NEIS?

New Enterprise Incentive Scheme

Starting your own business has proven to be a successful way for many people to gain employment. Some Job Network members specialise in providing assistance to help you put your business idea into practice.

N.E.I.S.

New Enterprise Incentive Scheme

The New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS) assists you to put business ideas into practice.

NEIS assistance includes:

training in small business management, business skills and business plan development.
income maintenance (NEIS Allowance), equivalent to Newstart allow for up to 52 weeks.
business advice and mentor support during the first year of business operation.

During your training, you will receive help to develop a small business plan which will need to be approved as viable before you can start your business with assistance under NEIS.

The development of a business plan during NEIS training will assist you if you need to approach banks or credit unions for finance. However, NEIS will not provide you with start-up funds in the form of loans or grants.

Eligibility

To get assistance your business must:

have never operated commercially before.
be independent, lawful and reputable.
not duplicate an existing business unless an unsatisfied demand for your product or service can be shown.
not involve the purchase or take over of an existing business.
