Privacy Policy

The Australian Business Development Centre Pty Ltd (ABDC) is committed to complying with the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000, which commenced in December 2001, and the privacy provisions of all applicable legislation.

This privacy policy covers all personal information we hold, that is, information or an opinion about an individual, whose identity is apparent, or can be reasonably ascertained from that information. This includes information we have collected from schools, students or parents, and employment agencies.

Respecting your privacy:
Our respect for our client's and staff's right to privacy of their personal information is paramount. ABDC has instigated procedures to ensure that all personal information, no matter how or where it is obtained, is handled securely, and in accordance with the National Privacy Principles.

This Privacy Policy sets out: -

•  Matters of which you should be aware regarding information we may collect about you.
•  Our policies on the management of personal information, and
•  Generally, what sort of information we hold, for what purposes, and how we collect, hold and use the information.

Collection of personal information

We collect personal information that includes details such as name, address, date of birth, contact details (such as phone and fax numbers, e-mail addresses) and academic/employment information about you such as information about your highest completed school level and employment status. We also collect information about any health-related condition you may have, to assist us in being able to address your specific requirements.

In most cases, you provide ABDC with your information. Sometimes we collect or confirm this information from a third party such as a school or an employment agency. Generally we will have sought your consent to do this.  

Failure to provide the personal information requested may expose you to higher risks in respect of the recommendations made to you and may affect the adequacy or appropriateness of the advice or training we or other training providers, give to you.

Use and disclosure of personal information

We use your personal information in order to provide you with training and business training services. Our other uses of your personal information may include ABDC's regular and necessary business functions such as internal audit investigations and performance reporting.

ABDC does not sell your personal information to outside companies.

Disclosing information:
ABDC will only disclose personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act.

This means that personal information may be disclosed: -

•  For the purposes for which we have advised that we are collecting it; and for related purposes that the individual would reasonably expect.
•  Where we have the consent of the individual to do so.
•  As required by Law, or
•  Under circumstances where permitted under the Act.

Unauthorised disclosure or access:
As ABDC is committed to protecting the privacy of individuals, we will view unauthorised

disclosure or access to personal information by our employees, contractors or agents' as a serious breach of this policy. Appropriate action (which may include disciplinary or legal action) will be taken in such cases.

Access and correction

In most cases you will be able to gain access to personal information about you held by ABDC. We will take reasonable steps to amend or correct your personal information to keep it accurate and up-to-date. Our Reception staff will co-ordinate requests relating to access and correction of your personal information.

Storage and security of your personal information

ABDC will take reasonable steps to keep personal information about you that it holds and uses secure, accurate and up-to-date. Your personal information is stored within secure systems that are protected in controlled facilities, and w e will monitor and implement appropriate technical advances or management processes to safeguard personal information. Our employees and authorised agents are obliged to respect the confidentiality of any personal information held by ABDC. Personal information will be managed confidentially and securely and destroyed appropriately when no longer legally required.

ABDC website and links to other websites

ABDC will not put any information about a student (past or present) on the ABDC website without the individual's permission. This includes any work created by the individual.

ABDC's website contains links to other websites whose operator(s) may or may not adhere to a privacy policy or be governed by the National Privacy Principles. ABDC does not accept liability for other sites being compliant with the National Privacy Principles.

If you have concerns or wish to make a complaint regarding the treatment of your personal information by ABDC please contact our Reception Staff on (03) 5223 2677 for assistance, and you will be directed to the appropriate available staff member. Availability and Review of Policy

We will make our Privacy Policy available on request and will provide access to this policy on the ABDC website (www.abdc.com.au).

This policy will be reviewed from time to time and any amendments will be incorporated in the updated policy. The date of the last amendment will be displayed at the bottom of this policy.
